Thanksgiving Day shopping insults traditions

My heart is heavy with the thoughts of our American traditions under attack. Shopping on Thanksgiving Day says so many things about the USA we live in today. We are easily able to give up our day that was traditionally meant to be spent with family, friends, community to celebrate our bountiful lives.

Now we are willing to give it up to save $50 on an electronic device that was out of date when it hit the shelf.

Let me remind you of some of the things this sale costs. During our long-lasting economic downturn several lower and middle class families were forced to take low-paying retail jobs. Then, as our beloved troops return from Afghanistan, they too are unable to find work and are forced to take these often minimum wage jobs just so they can feel “normal” and whole again.

We are asking the have-nots to serve the rest of our nation again. The rich will not be working. I want those that have the freedom of not working to remember that the workers will only bring about $49.90 into their household after taxes. Would you give up your day for that?

Look at our world, America, look at the freedoms and traditions we are giving up every day. Remind yourselves of others. Can’t your shopping wait until normal business hours? Do you believe the Macy’s, Kohl’s, Walmarts, owners, CEOs, CFOs and all the higher ups will be ringing up your insignificant purchases?

No, they will be at there winter homes or on a vacation far from here enjoying their family and friends. Please respect our county’s tradition. We have so few.
