Cubs hire Hinske to complete Renteria’s staff

Eric Hinske, who spent 12 years in the majors playing for seven clubs, will be the first base coach for Cubs manager Rick Renteria, team officials announced Tuesday.

The hiring completes the coaching staff for the first-year Cubs manager.

Hinske, 36, earned 2002 American League Rookie of the Year honors with Toronto and made three-straight World Series appearances starting with Boston in 2007 and the New York Yankees in 2009.

Renteria’s new coaching staff also includes Chris Bosio (pitching coach), Brandon Hyde (bench coach), Gary Jones (third base coach), Bill Mueller (hitting coach), Lester Strode (bullpen coach), Mike Borzello (catching and strategy coach), Mike Brumley (assistant hitting coach) and Franklin Font (staff assistant).
