Illinois’ Rice Big Ten player of the week

CHAMPAIGN — Illinois guard Rayvonte Rice is the Big Ten’s player of the week after averaging 21 points a game in a pair of wins.

Rice also averaged eight rebounds and three steals a game in those victories over UNLV last Tuesday and Indiana Purdue-Fort Wayne on Friday.

The wins kept Illinois (7-0) undefeated.

Rice scored 25 points and had 10 rebounds in the 61-59 road win over UNLV. He also hit the game-winning short with 28 seconds left on the clock.

It’s Rice’s first Big Ten honor. The junior joined the Illini this season after transferring from Drake. He sat out last season under NCAA transfer rules.
