Trial ordered for woman accused in mine protest
HURLEY, Wis. — A woman accused of stealing a camera from a mine worker in northern Wisconsin as she protested Gogebic Taconite’s mining plans is going to trial.
Katie Kloth, of Weston, is charged with robbery by the use of force, theft and criminal damage to property after being arrested in connection with a violent protest at the mining site in Iron County.
The Stevens Point Journal Media reports the 26-year-old Kloth was in court last month for a preliminary hearing, where she was bound over for trial. She is set to be back in court again Dec. 16.
The group was protesting the controversial open pit iron mining site, which they say will have devastating environmental impacts.
Kloth is free on a $5,000 signature bond.
