Naperville cops probe attempted armed robbery

Naperville police are searching for a man armed with a semiautomatic handgun who approached a resident Saturday on the 600 block of Porter Avenue and demanded his cellphone and wallet.

The victim told police he was able to retreat inside his house without giving up the items and was unharmed. The suspect immediately left the area.

Police said they responded at 5:53 p.m. and searched the area with a K9 unit but could not find the suspect.

The suspect was described as a black man standing about 6 feet tall and weighing 175 pounds. Police said he was wearing a hooded sweatshirt and jeans.
