Elk Grove Village welcomes the holiday season

Elk Grove Village’s annual tree-lighting ceremony welcomed in the winter holiday season Friday night, as Mayor Craig Johnson and former Elk Grove Township Supervisor Nanci Vanderweel threw the switch to activate more than 250,000 lights around the Village Green, Municipal Complex, Elk Grove Public Library and Elk Grove Park District Pavilion and on the tree.

After the lighting, residents visited with Santa and Mrs. Claus and watched a fireworks show while drinking hot chocolate and eating cookies.

This year’s tree, a 39-year-old, 40-foot-tall Colorado spruce, was donated to the village by the Best family.
