Colter still a maybe for Illini game

Northwestern quarterback Kain Colter’s status for Saturday’s game at Illinois is still up in the air after the injured senior couldn’t take to the practice field for a third day.

Northwestern spokesman Scott Hammer said Wednesday that Colter dressed for the day’s practice but “didn’t really participate.” Colter didn’t practice Monday or Tuesday either, after leaving last week’s Michigan State game with an injury.

Wildcat coach Pat Fitzgerald has only called Cain’s disability an “upper body” injury.

Fitzgerald hasn’t ruled Colter out for the Illini game. But if Colter can’t go he’s backed up by junior Trevor Siemian.

Northwestern (4-7, 0-7 Big Ten) will be looking for its first conference victory of the season Saturday at Illinois (4-7, 1-6).
