Family event opens Hanukkah in Buffalo Grove

Buffalo Grove’s annual celebration of Hanukkah, known as Chanukah Family Funland, got underway Wednesday in the village’s Town Center.

The event, organized by the Suburban Alliance for Jewish Education, includes a carnival, live music, a cafe and plenty of craft and gift items. It runs through Sunday, and activities will be open on Thanksgiving.

Saturday night’s event will be a special game night for adults, from 8 to 11 p.m.

Hanukkah, the eight-day Jewish Festival of Lights, officially began at sundown Wednesday. It marks the first time the holiday and Thanksgiving fell together since the 19th century.

The Town Center is located at 144 McHenry Road, Buffalo Grove. Adults and children under 2 enter for free, but children 2-16 must pay a $10 entrance fee, which covers most games and activities.

For information on the event, including each day’s hours of operation, visit the event’s website, www.chanukahfamilyfunland.com or call (224) 534-9613.
