Thanksgiving shopping? Appalling.

Thanksgiving shopping? Appalling.

I have been reading and hearing about some stores opening on Thanksgiving Day. Whatever happened to “traditional” Thanksgiving where the family gathers together from near and far, enjoys catching up family news and celebrating thankfulness that they are together to enjoy a sumptuous meal?

Everyone stuffs themselves on delicious food, then everyone pitches in, cleans up and enjoys the rest of the day together, whether watching football or just visiting or playing games with the children.

The idea of going shopping for Christmas gifts on Thanksgiving is appalling to me. Think also, not of just yourselves wanting to shop, for whatever reason, but families where the employee has to leave the celebration their family is having, to go to work … just so you can buy something that will surely still be at the store at nearly the same price a week later.

Get real, folks: It’s Thanksgiving Day, not “shop till you drop” day.
