Autopsy Monday for body found in vacant Schaumburg lot

An autopsy of a man found dead Saturday morning in a vacant lot in Schaumburg is scheduled for Monday, according to authorities who say they are continuing a death investigation in the case.

Cook County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Benjamin Breit said the person was identified as a man in his 50s, but authorities were not yet releasing his name Sunday.

Schaumburg police and firefighter paramedics responded at 10:10 a.m. Saturday to a report of a body with a gunshot wound discovered near Martingale and Old Schaumburg roads, between two ponds east of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District water treatment facility.

The man was pronounced dead about 11:15 a.m. at the vacant property, which is south of Schaumburg’s Olympic Park soccer fields, authorities confirmed.

The man’s family has been notified.
