SIU-E comes up short against Portland St.

PORTLAND, Ore. — DaShaun Wiggins scored a season-high 17 points — including five in the final minutes — as Portland State rallied to beat Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 77-74 on Saturday night.

Trailing by 10 at the half, the Vikings (3-1) chipped away. Wiggins scored back-to-back baskets and one of two free throws to stake Portland State to a 71-68 lead with 2:55 to play at the Portland State Tournament.

Tim Douglas scored 18 and Aaron Moore 12 for the Vikings.

SIU-E (1-4) scored off the opening tip and led all the way until 6:33 remained in the game when the Vikings Marcus Hall hit a 3-pointer, lifting Portland State ahead briefly, 62-61.

Tim Johnson led the Cougars with 17 points, Donivine Stewart added a season-high 16 and Keaton Jackson scored 10.

Portland State forced 13 turnovers, scoring eight points, and took advantage of 22 foul shots, making 18.
