Lakemoor duplex fire still under investigation

A fire that damaged two units at a Lakemoor duplex and displaced its two families remained under investigation, the McHenry Township Fire Protection District said Saturday.

The district was called at 7:21 p.m. Thursday to the 300 block of North Maplewood Drive n Lakemoor for a structure fire, according to a news release. Assistance was also provided by the Nunda Fire Protection District, Fox Lake Fire Protection District, Wonder Lake Fire Protection District and Spring Grove Fire Protection District.

The first responders came within 7 minutes of the emergency call and the fire was put out in about 24 minutes, the statement said. When crews arrived, light smoke was coming from the rear eves of the two-story duplex. Fire and smoke damage were extensive throughout the second floor unit with smoke and water damage to the first floor unit as well.

The entire building was uninhabitable and aid was requested for the two displaced families through the American Red Cross, the statement said.
