Milwaukee’s 2013 homicide count exceeds last year’s

MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee already has exceeded the total number of homicides recorded in the city last year.

Fifty-nine-year-old Gloria Zuniga was killed about 8:40 p.m. Monday when bullets sprayed her Milwaukee home in what police say was a gang-related homicide.

Zuniga became Milwaukee’s 93rd homicide victim this year. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that pushes the number of homicides in the city past last year’s total of 92 homicides.

Zuniga is not believed to have been the target of the shooting, but police suspect the shooters targeted the house. Police have made no arrests.

It was the second homicide in Milwaukee on Monday. About 2:15 a.m., 27-year-old Christopher Gray was killed in a struggle with two apparent burglars.

A police spokesman says Gray died from blunt force trauma.
