The exhibit “Carl Sandburg in Elmhurst” remains up through April 20 in the Elmhurst Historical Museum, 120 E. Park Ave., Elmhurst. Museum hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday; admission is free. The museum also is working with other organizations on a variety of programs related to the exhibit. Ÿ Curator-led gallery talks of the exhibit are 2 to 3 p.m. Dec. 8, Jan. 19, Feb. 16, March 16 and April 20. Free.

Ÿ Observe Carl Sandburg’s Jan. 6 birthday with American stories, Sandburg poems and folk songs from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Jan. 4 at the Elmhurst Public Library, 125 S. Prospect Ave. For ages 3 to 8. Free. Pick up tickets at the Help Desk with an Elmhurst Public Library card starting at 9 a.m. on the day of the program.

Ÿ Celebrate Sandburg’s 136th birthday from 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 5 at the Elmhurst Historical Museum. Folk singer Bucky Halker performs songs from Sandburg’s “American Songbag” at 2:30 and 3:30 p.m., and birthday cake is served at 3 p.m. Free.

Ÿ See silent films that Carl Sandburg reviewed in the 1920s with background provided by film critic Robert K. Elder, the editor-in-chief of Sun-Times Media Local. The films start at 7 p.m. at the Elmhurst Public Library, 125 S. Prospect Ave., and admission is free. Featured films are: “The Cabinet on Dr. Caligari” on Jan. 16, “The Extra Girl” on Feb. 13, “Sherlock, Jr.” on March 13, and “The Kid” on April 10. Ÿ Lincoln scholar Guy Fraker, author of “Lincoln’s Ladder to the Presidency,” discusses how Lincoln’s years on the Eighth Judicial Circuit in central Illinois helped him build a political base at 2 p.m. Feb. 16 at the Elmhurst Historical Museum Education Center. Free.

Ÿ Marten Stromberg, who wrote the “Carl Sandburg in Elmhurst” exhibit, gives a public lecture at 7 p.m. March 6 in the museum’s Education Center. Free.

Ÿ During March, create your own interpretation of a Carl Sandburg poem and you might win a prize. Visit Elmhurst Public Library’s children’s section or the Elmhurst Historical Museum each week for a Drop-in and Draw project related to the Sandburg exhibit.

Ÿ Make your own book at a workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. April 1 at the Elmhurst Public Library, 125 S. Prospect St. For grades 2 to 6. Register beginning March 1 in person at the library, by phone at (630) 279-8696 or at elmhurstpubliclibrary.org.
