Appeal filed by man accused of killing parents

LA CROSSE, Wis. — The man convicted of killing his parents in La Crosse County is asking for a new trial.

Eric Koula is serving two life sentences for the deaths of his parents, Dennis and Merna Koula, in May 2010. The La Crosse Tribune says Koula’s new attorneys claim the trial judge improperly disallowed some evidence and that jurors heard prejudicial jury instructions.

Prosecutors argued at Koula’s trial that his deep debt and floundering day trading career drove him to kill his parents for the inheritance.
