Black, Finke commit to Illini basketball

CHAMPAIGN — The two biggest names the Illini had hoped to add got away, but Illinois on Saturday announced the signings of two recruits for next season.

Illini coach John Groce said forwards Michael Finke from Champaign, and Leron Black from Memphis, Tenn., committed to Illinois.

On Friday top recruit Cliff Alexander of Chicago chose Kansas over Illinois and others. Earlier in the day point guard Quentin Snider chose Louisville after earlier indicating he would head to Illinois.

In a news release Groce called the 6-7 Black and 6-9 Finke talented players who fit the Illinois system and have “the highest character.”

Black is considered a consensus top-50 recruit from Memphis White Station, while Finke is an all-state player at Champaign Central.
