Millburn girls take second at conference

Submitted by Mike Gallo

The eighth-grade Millburn girls volleyball team recently concluded its season by finishing second in the Lakeside Conference with a record of 8-1. After both Millburn and Highland (Libertyville) started the season 8-0, the teams met to decide the regular season champion. Highland took two out of three sets to claim the title. The Millburn Cougars advanced to the postseason where pool play was the first obstacle. The girls finished that round with a 7-1 record, beating Lake Bluff Middle, Deer Path Middle (Lake Forest) and Northwood (Highland Park). The team’s lone loss came when they split two sets with Oak Grove (Mettawa). That finish earned the girls a berth in the semifinals. They lost in the semifinals to Highland 2 sets to 0, and then dropped the third place match to Sandburg (Mundelein) 2 sets to 1.

The girls finished the season with a record of 15-5 and completed a two-year run of 28-11.
