Chicago man charged in August shooting near church

Cook County authorities charged a 20-year-old Chicago man with a fatal shooting that killed one person and injured four others near a church on the city’s North Side.

Kelsky Patterson was set to appear in bond court on Wednesday after he was charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery for the August shooting outside Uptown Baptist Church.

Twenty-one-year-old Darius Oliver died in the shooting, which authorities said at the time may have been gang-related.

Police say Patterson was charged while he was already in custody for another shooting nearby that took place almost two weeks later.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Patterson had an attorney and no telephone listing for him could be found.
