Chicago State outlasts Jacksonville State

Quinton Pippen scored 20 points and drained a late 3-pointer to help Chicago State hold off Jacksonville State 79-75 Tuesday night.

The Cougars (2-1) used an 11-2 run to jump out to a 38-21 lead in the first half, but Jacksonville State surged late to cut their deficit to eight at the break.

The Gamecocks (0-3) climbed back to tie the game at 65 with 9:16 remaining. Matt Ross made a layup and a 3-pointer to put Chicago State up by five, but Jacksonville once again tied it up with a triple by Brian Williams and two free throws from D.J. Felder.

Ross, who finished with 22 points, laid one in to put Chicago State ahead by six. Felder answered with a layup and Undra Mitchem hit a 3-pointer to pull within one with 2:27 remaining.

Following turnovers by both teams, Pippen netted a 3-point dagger to ice the game.
