Wolves rally to sweep Checkers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Chicago Wolves completed a two-game sweep of the Charlotte Checkers with a 2-1 victory Saturday night at the Time Warner Cable Arena.

Defenseman Evan Oberg and right wing Mike Davies scored for the Wolves, who netted a pair of unanswered goals in the second period to overcome an early deficit. Goaltender Jake Allen (6-3-1) saved 27 shots to record the win.

The Wolves (6-6-0-1) had to play catch-up after the Checkers (5-6-0-1) scored 8:53 into the game when an angled shot bounced off Allen into a scrum in front of the net. Brendan Woods found the puck and roofed it over Allen’s shoulder for a 1-0 lead.

Oberg evened the score early in the second period when Mark Mancari sent a pass from the wall to Oberg at the point. His shot beat Checkers goaltender John Muse (3-2-0, 29 saves) on his glove side.

The Wolves scored what proved to be the game-winner at 17:23 of the second period on Davies’ power-play goal on a one-timer past Muse as Alexandre Bolduc and Ty Rattie picked up assists.
