Elgin man charged with Subway armed robbery in Carpentersville

A 50-year-old Elgin man is charged with the armed robbery of a Subway restaurant in Carpentersville.

Rodney W. Boyette, of the 400 block of Standish Court, has been charged with one felony count of armed robbery.

Carpentersville Police Commander Timothy Bosshart said Boyette entered a Subway restaurant near Huntley and Randall Roads at about 7 p.m. Thursday, implied that he had a gun and demanded money.

Boyette drove away after receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, but was arrested a short time later by Algonquin police at South Randall Road and Harnish Drive after police issued a radio alert, Bosshart said.

Carpentersville police identified him as the offender in the armed robbery, Bosshart said. No gun was recovered and the Subway clerk was not injured.

According to Kane County court records, Boyette does not have any previous criminal arrests.

Boyette is being held on $100,000 bail, meaning he must post $10,000 to be released from the Kane County jail while the case is pending.

He is next due in court on Thursday.
