Vernon Hills police announce tobacco check results

A compliance check of 14 tobacco retailers in Vernon Hills showed no violations, police said. The checks were done in accordance with a grant from the Illinois Liquor Control Commission to determine if local tobacco retailers are complying with Illinois law and local ordinances relating to minimum-age tobacco sales. This marked the seventh consecutive time that no violations occurred, police said. The $1,760 grant, which was awarded this past summer, requires that three checks be conducted at each establishment before the end of May, 2014. Before the first round, each establishment received educational materials. The second and third rounds of checks will be conducted after the first of the year and in the spring.
