Markham man gets 6 years in prison for bribery
A 48-year-old South suburban man has been sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to trying to get someone to pay him to lie in court.
Cook County prosecutors said Thursday that Robert Marzette of Markham pleaded guilty to bribery before his sentencing. They say he demanded $10,000 cash in exchange for falsely testifying at another man’s upcoming involuntary manslaughter trial.
They say he ultimately agreed to accept $7,000 in exchange for his false testimony to make that case “go away.” But the person he solicited the money from was cooperating with authorities, who arrested Marzette after he received the cash in May.
Marzette already was on parole for a 2010 burglary conviction.
