Local AmeriCorps rep. to address Elgin Lions Club

Molly Rosenfeld of AmeriCorps, which is the domestic equivalent of the Peace Corps, will address the Elgin Lions Club at its meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at their new meeting site, the American Legion Hall at 820 N. Liberty St. in Elgin.

The meeting starts at 6:15 p.m.

Ms. Rosenfeld will report on her assignment in New York City last year to help with the Hurricane Sandy disaster and her experiences at Camp Lions this past summer.

The club has concluded its Candy Day 2013 activities and wishes to thank the donors who have contributed to the charitable works of the club. Locally, the funds raised by this and other fundraisers go primarily to help School District U-46 students and senior citizens with their vision problems. The club purchases eye exams and eyeglasses for those who need them and cannot afford them.

The meeting is open to the public. Those wishing to attend are asked to notify the club on the Elgin Lions Club's phone answering service at (847) 289-4206 and leave a message. It is a meal meeting.

The cost for the meal is $12, but attendees do not need to partake of the meal. When leaving the message, please indicate if a meal is desired. Advance notification is necessary to provide adequate seating and meals.
