Madoff, Burge among Jackson’s fellow inmates
Jesse Jackson Jr.’s fellow inmates at his new prison home in North Carolina include Wall Street financier Bernie Madoff and a former Chicago police commander convicted of lying about torture.
Prison officials said Tuesday the ex-congressman has entered the federal facility to start serving a 2 1/2-year term for spending $750,000 in campaign money on personal items.
The 48-year-old is now Inmate No. 32451-016 at the Butner Correctional Center. It’s in a wooded area 30 miles north of Raleigh, N.C.
The Bureau of Prisons says Wall Street fraudster Madoff is also at Butner. So is former Chicago police Cmdr. Jon Burge, convicted of lying about police torture of suspects.
The complex includes high- and low-level security sections, so it’s unclear if Jackson will have contact with Madoff and Burge.
