Buffalo Grove man accused of sexual assault

A Buffalo Grove man is facing allegations he sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl he met online earlier this year, authorities said.

Tal Vardy, 19, was arrested this weekend by Midlothian police and charged with predatory criminal sexual assault, a felony punishable by up to 60 years in prison.

Prosecutors say the assault took place earlier this year in the South suburbs when Vardy was 18 and the victim was 12.

A judge this weekend set Vardy’s bail at $150,000 and ordered him to have no contact with the girl, witnesses or anyone under the age of 18. He was also told not to access the Internet or use cellphones, according to Tandra Simonton, a spokeswoman with the Cook County state’s attorney’s office.

Midlothian police didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Vardy posted the necessary 10 percent of bail required to be released from jail, officials said. He is due back in court Tuesday.
