Des Plaines receives block grant funds

Des Plaines is the recipient of $278,375 in federal Community Development Block Grant funds, officials announced.

The funds will be used for implementation of a neighborhood plan for the Apache Park area, a facilities/property improvement program, and for a number of nonprofit public service projects, such as child care assistance and homeless prevention programs.

Officials said the block grant program is intended to develop urban communities by creating better living environments and increasing economic opportunities for low- and moderate-income residents.
