Boys cross country/Fox Valley roundup

Huntley sophomore Keagan Smith was the individual champion and Jacobs won the team title Saturday at the Class 3A Hononegah boys cross country regional.

Smith finished in a time of 15 minutes, 19 seconds and led the Red Raiders to second place with 64 points. Larkin also qualified as a team, finishing sixth with 151 points.

Jacobs scored 35 points to win the team title and advance to next week’s Waubonsie Valley sectional.

Senior Matt Johnson (15:35), senior Zachary Johnson (15:53), junior Matthew Goldby (16:05), senior Corey Albrecht (16:13) and senior Jon Godinez (16:21) were the Golden Eagles’ top runners.

Sophomore Seth Conroy (15:57), sophomore Mike Grocholski (16:19), freshman Matt Kapolnek (16:51) and junior Elijah Green (17:07) supported Smith for Huntley.

Alex O’Claire was Larkin’s top runner in a time of 16:55.

Class 3A at Palatine: Cary-Grove advanced four individuals to next Saturday’s Schaumburg sectional. Freshman Alex Ratkovich (16:14), sophomore Sang Seo (16:32), junior John Cody (16:37) and junior Michael Saxon (16:41) all advanced for the Trojans, as did Dundee-Crown junior Todd Noreen (16:36). Crystal Lake South picked up the sixth and final team qualifying spot with 132 points. Freshman Jonathon Prus (16:14) was the Gators’ top runner. Palatine won the team championship with 45 points and McHenry junior Jesse Reiser was the individual champion in a time of 14:55.

Class 3A at Wheaton North: Bartlett’s Dan Cotton finished second in 15:28 at the Wheaton North regional to lead the Hawks to a fourth-place finish with 83 points. Seniors Anthony Peters and Alex Peters also finished in the top 20 in 10th and 19th, respectively, for the Hawks. South Elgin also advanced as a team, finishing sixth with 175 points. Senior John Danner was the Storm’s top runner, taking eighth in 15:52. St. Charles East won the team title with 50 points and Wheaton North senior Joseph Emmanuel was the individual champion in a time of 15:14.

Class 2A at Burlington Central: Burlington Central grabbed the sixth and final team qualifying spot at its own regional. Vernon Hills won the team race with 34 points and Crystal Lake Central was second with 62. Junior Clay Musial was BC’s top runner, finishing ninth. CL Central senior Ryan Pitner won the race in a time of 15:26.

Class 1A at Aurora Christian: Harvest Christian packed four runners into the top 20 Saturday to finish in second place at the Class 1A Aurora Christian regional. The Lions scored 86 points, with Westmont taking first place with 68 points. Senior John Vislisel (9th, 16:59), senior Jacob Schott (12th, 17:06), freshman Riley Steiner (15th, 17:12), freshman Michael Sisko (18th, 17:34) and sophomore Brett Cramer (32nd, 18:13) scored for Harvest Christian. Westminster Christian freshman Tom Danner also qualified for next Saturday’s Lisle sectional, finishing 19th in 17:12.

Mooseheart’s Wal Khat won the race in a time of 15:19.
