Vernon Hills powers into 2A sectional semis

Vernon Hills 5, Chicago Senn 1: At Vernon Hills on Friday night, the Cougars captured their second regional championship in school history, while also collecting their school-record 11th win.

Vernon Hills (11-5-2) got on the board early with a goal from senior David White (at 1:11) and stayed ahead in the Class 2A regional final.

Jeremy Cohen scored at 2:22, and Chris White added a goal in the 13th minute for the Cougars. David White added his second goal, and Ilya Kravtsev also scored. Brad Burrows had 2 assists, while Ryan Bryson and Mathew Hong also assisted on goals.

Vernon Hills advances to the semifinals of the Grayslake North sectional at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Cougars will meet Marian Central, which edged Woodstock North 4-3 on Friday.

“The staff and school couldn’t be more proud and excited for this group,” Cougars coach Mike McCaulou said. “The boys deserve this and have come so far together this season as a team. To be a part of school history is special for these kids and we just want them to keep wanting more and working for more.”
