Small fire closes Libertyville McDonald’s

A kitchen fryer caught fire and closed a McDonald’s restaurant in Libertyville for most of the day Friday, officials said.

The fire at 1417 Peterson Road was reported to authorities about 10 a.m., but by the time firefighters got to the scene, the restaurant’s Ansul fire suppression system had already extinguished the fire, according to the Libertyville Fire Department.

Total damages were estimated at $15,000, authorities said.

Cleanup crews worked throughout the afternoon to ready the kitchen for business. The restaurant had reopened by 4 p.m.
