Wadsworth home catches fire

Officials are investigating a fire at a single-family home in Wadsworth.

At 10:17 a.m. Thursday, the Newport Township Fire Protection District responded to the fire on Mill Creek Road. Upon arrival, they found smoke pouring from the side of a large two-story home.

A box alarm was issued, mainly because the area did not have a hydrant, requiring tankers to arrive with water and additional manpower.

Fifteen water tankers from Lake, McHenry and Kenosha counties responded. In all, there were 28 departments answering the mutual aid request.

Fire officials said the occupants of the home escaped without injury.

The fire was finally extinguished at 2 p.m.
