$2.3 million given to Illinois unemployment efforts
The Illinois Department of Employment Security has been awarded a $2.3 million federal grant to spend on efforts aimed at cutting waste and fraud in the unemployment insurance program.
The department said Wednesday it will use the money on existing anti-fraud programs and to try out new efforts.
Department Director Jay Rowell said the agency has cut waste, fraud and related problems by $239 million over the past two years.
The grant money comes from the U.S. Department of Labor.
