TSA unveils faster screening at Milwaukee airport

MILWAUKEE — The government is rolling out faster passenger screening at Milwaukee’s Mitchell International Airport.

The Transportation Security Administration debuted its new “TSA PreCheck” program at the airport Tuesday.

The expedited screening program allows travelers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belts and keep laptop computers in cases at security checkpoints.

Eligible passengers include U.S. citizens of frequent flier programs who have been invited by a participating airline.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the program does not guarantee that someone will move unchecked through airport screening. But the agency says the program allows officers to focus on other passengers who might pose a risk to transportation.

TSA says by the end of the year, 100 airports nationwide, including Mitchell International, will have an expedited screening lane.
