Cary woman charged with DUI in crash

A Cary woman was driving under the influence with a child in her car when it crashed Monday afternoon in an unincorporated area near Woodstock, police say.

McHenry County Sheriff's officers responded to the crash on the 4600 block of Dean Street at 2:40 p.m. A black 2008 Mazda driven by Andrea M. Kief, 29, of the 7300 block of Cove Drive, was southbound on Dean Street north of Route 176, police said, when it crossed the northbound lane of traffic and went into the ditch on the east side of the roadway. The car struck a culvert, causing it to flip and then hit a tree. The juvenile in the car was taken to Centegra Hospital Woodstock as a precaution and later released. Kief did not seek medical attention.

Kief was charged with failure to reduce speed, endangering the life of a child, DUI, possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.

She remains in the McHenry County Jail on a $4,500 bond. Her next court appearance is at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 20.
