Schakowsky embarrasses herself and others

The U.S. government is shut down due to the failure of Congress to pass the budget for fiscal year 2014. The principle reason for the impasse is the effort to defund the Affordable Care Act. This complex law was rammed through Congress and passed on a party-line vote.

The ACA is a bad deal for most working Americans and senior citizens. The public responded by removing many of those who voted for the ACA in the 2010 election. The newly elected congressmen are the ones trying to balance the budget and stop the ill effects of the ACA. They are doing what their constituents sent them to do.

Rep. Jan Schakowsky was among the House leaders who rammed ACA through Congress. She should be trying to either pull the plug on the ACA or find other areas in the budget that can be cut so that it can be implemented without further damage to the economy. This would involve talking and negotiating with members of the other party. Instead, she is out on the streets protesting like a 1960s hippie and embarrassing herself, her constituents and the Daily Herald, who endorsed her in the last election. Someone needs to tell the congresswoman, “Do your job, and grow up!”
