Lake Zurich finishes perfect Lake run

Lake Zurich’s girls volleyball team had multiple reasons to celebrate Thursday night.

Mallory Parsons pounded 14 kills, and Kristen Walding added 35 assists and 8 kills, as the Bears capped a perfect run through the North Suburban Lake Division with a 25-18, 21-25, 25-16 win over visiting Mundelein on senior night.

Lake Zurich (22-2, 6-0) will visit either Antioch or Lakes for the NSC championship next Wednesday night.

Allie McIlwain also had 8 kills for the Bears against Mundelein, while Ashley Dina led the way defensively with 29 digs.

Mundelein (12-17, 2-4) received 10 kills from Yasmeen Johnson and 16 assists from Madi Wilcox.

Benet d. Carmel: Dana Griffin and Whitney Battoe had 7 and 6 kills, respectively, for the host Redwings, who cooled off the Corsairs, winning 25-19, 25-15 in East Suburban Catholic Conference play.

Benet improved to 6-1 in the ESCC. Carmel fell to 25-5 and 4-3.

Warren d. Deerfield: Allyson Mitchell slammed 16 kills and added 16 digs, Jenna Walczak had 11 kills, and the Blue Devils rallied for a 20-25, 25-19, 25-12 win in nonconference play.

Warren also received contributions from Lauren Frericks (17 assists, 8 digs), Heidi Doden (digs), Rachel Ziegler (9 kills, 3 aces), Lindsey Biedron (3 aces, 10 digs) and Alyssa Rapp (3 kills).

Grayslake Central d. Hampshire: On senior night, the host Rams got a monster game from senior Alex Dahlstrom — 16 kills, 3 blocks, 2 aces — and outlasted the Whip-Purs 20-25, 25-16, 25-19 in a Fox Valley Fox Division thriller.

It was the 20th win for Grayslake Central (20-8, 7-4), which also got 21 digs from Teresa Curtis.

“It was great to get our 20th win on senior night,” Rams coach Jason Janczak said. “I’m proud of the way the girls played in honor of these seniors. It was a good match.”
