Harper College to Host Open House for High Schoolers

Harper College will host its annual Fall Open House for all high school students and parents beginning the process of selecting a college. The open house will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 17 in the Wojick Conference Center on the College's main campus, 1200 W. Algonquin Road in Palatine.

Among the offerings at this year's event are the first ever “Undecided About Your Major” workshop aimed at students still unsure of which areas they would like to study or what career path to pursue. High schoolers can learn how they can earn guaranteed admission to the College of Engineering at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign through Harper's Engineering Pathways program.

Another new addition to this year's open house will be a panel discussion with four distinguished faculty, all of who hold PhDs in their respective fields and conduct research with their students. “The students who attend open house don't always know that we have faculty here with PhDs,” said Tamara McClain, Manager for Student Recruitment and Outreach. “We wanted to highlight some aspects of the college that haven't always been highlighted during open house. This is a great chance for young people to get out there and see all that Harper College has all to offer.”

Attendees can also participate in breakout sessions on topics ranging from choosing a major to applying for financial aid and scholarships, as well as meet one on one with faculty. College career and support services will also be present at the event. Harper will host another open house will be held in the spring.
