Meadows tops BG for second place in MSL East
The Rolling Meadows girls volleyball team wound up in second place in the Mid-Suburban East by posting a 25-23, 25-20 victory on Wednesday night at Buffalo Grove.
Coach Joe Di Silvio’s Mustangs (17-12) finished with a 7-3 record in the East while the Bison (10-13) ended at 6-4.
Top hitters for Mustangs were seniors Ashley Montanez (8 kills) and Lauren Sokolowski (5 kills, 2 aces).
Jenny Vliet (1 block), Mia Harper and Hannah Mickey (2 blocks) each had 3 kills in the offense set by Vliet (13 assists) and Sami Kay (8).
Harper led the defense with 11 digs and Sokolowski had 8.
BG was led on attack by Alaina Murphy (8 kills, 8 digs), Sarah Rivera (5 kills, 5 digs) and Colleen Nowlan (3 kills). Marie Georgoulis handed out 11 assists while Leah Masciopinto had 7 digs.
Maine East d. Maine West: Hannah Farley had 7 kills and 8 digs for Maine East in the 25-19, 25-16 triumph in the Central Suburban North. Sarah Hua-Pham collected 19 assists for the Blue Demons (14-8, 4-4).
Maine West (13-14, 4-4) was led by Allison Grzebien (6 kills, 1 block), Kassidy Riportella (2 kills, 2 aces, 11 assists), Brittany Collins (3 kills).
“I’m disappointed with the effort,” said Warriors coach Randy Tiller. “We didn’t hold our volleyball discipline or our emotional discipline.”
The Warriors host their 24-team team Pumpkin Tournament Friday and Saturday.
