Batavia police are investigating a single-car crash that killed an Aurora man early Wednesday morning, according to a news release.

Salvador J. Esparza, 32, was traveling north on the 600 block of South River Street around 12:57 a.m. when he lost control of a 1990 Mercedes-Benz, according to police.

His car crossed into the oncoming southbound lane of traffic, left the road and went airborne, police said. The car then struck a tree on the west side of the parkway, ejecting Esparza and passenger Amos Martinez, 33, also of Aurora.

Esparza and Martinez were transported to Presence Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, where Esparza was pronounced dead. Martinez remains in the hospital with injuries that do not appear life-threatening.

The Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team is assisting Batavia police with the investigation.
