Affordable Care Act explained Oct. 23 in Barrington

NAMI Barrington Area will be hosting “Affordable Care Act Explained” an event with health insurance experts aimed at helping individuals understand the new health care law, its impact and steps needed to gain access to individual health insurance. This free event takes place 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, in the Barrington village hall’s second floor board room, 200 S. Hough St., Barrington.

Health insurance experts from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois and Aetna Better Health of Illinois will focus the presentation on helping the state’s residents understand the Affordable Care Act. Resources offered will include educational materials and guidance to help residents of Illinois navigate the changes ahead.

The focus of the speaker will be in explaining how the new law will affect access to health insurance. In detailing the different health insurance options, eligibility for government subsidies and the role of the employer, listeners will better understand their rights and responsibilities related to this legislation.

The presenter for Aetna Better Health Illinois will be discussing the Integrated Care Plan, which is a Medicaid managed care plan designed for adults with disabilities. Participants in this plan must qualify for Medicaid and reside in Suburban Cook, Du Page, Kane, Kankakee, Lake or Will County.

The Integrated Care Plan is designed to link the participant’s primary care physician, specialists, long term care and community services; based on needs, strengths and expressed goals. If you or a loved one is on Medicaid, you are sure to find this presentation informative and helpful.
