Missing Fox Lake-area man found safe

A Fox Lake-area man who was reported missing about one week ago has returned home safely, authorities said.

Eric D. Walleck, 40, of the 500 block of Lincoln Avenue, returned home on Saturday, Fox Lake Police Lt. Mark Schindler said.

Officers verified Walleck returned home, but had no explanation for his disappearance, other than saying “he was an adult and was free to go where he pleases,” Schindler said.

Walleck has been removed as a missing person by the Fox Lake Police Department, Schindler said, but he added the department thanks all those who may have participated in attempting to find him.

Schindler said Walleck was reported missing by his father, William Walleck, on Monday, Oct. 7, after the younger Walleck told his father that masked men had entered his apartment and threatened him.

When William Walleck was unable to reach his son, he went to his apartment and found the door unlocked, and his son’s cellphone and car at that location.

However, police said Eric Walleck contacted a family member from Texas on Wednesday, Oct. 9, and asked for money to buy a ticket home. Police left him on the missing person list, until he returned home to the Fox Lake area.
