Libertyville discovers some strong results
Libertyville’s girls volleyball team enjoyed maybe its best weekend of the season to date.
The Wildcats finished second in the Glenbrook North/New Trier Discovery invite Saturday and placed freshman libero Morgan O’Brien and senior hitter Rhiannon Prentiss on the all-tournament team.
Libertyville (14-9) went 4-1 over two days, falling to DeKalb 25-18, 25-21 in the final after beating Glenbrook North 25-19, 25-22 in the semifinals.
Libertyville finished 3-0 in pool play Friday, defeating Niles North, Maine South and Buffalo Grove.
Prentiss had 34 kills and 35 digs in the tourney, while Alex Basler added 26 kills and 8 blocks. Cassie Ostmeyer totaled 42 assists, 17 digs and 6 aces, while O’Brien posted 61 digs and served 2 aces. Vicky Liu had 26 digs and 3 aces, and Carly Ostmeyer chipped in 33 digs and 6 aces.
Stevenson (21-6) also won four of its five matches, setting for fourth place. The Patriots lost to New Trier 25-8, 25-18, while capturing wins over Leyden (25-15, 25-18), Maine West (25-8, 25-18), Nazareth (25-16, 18-25, 25-11) and Maine South (25-8, 25-19).
Stevenson’s tournament highlights included Khaila Donaldson’s 13 kills against Maine South and Nazareth.
