Trestman’s passing offense elevates Bears

Thursday night’s performance was, for most of the night, the best example yet of what Marc Trestman’s passing offense is supposed to look like. Through three quarters the Bears’ air attack strafed the Giants’ secondary and provided just enough production to lead a 27-21 nationally televised victory. Split verdict in Hoffman Estates street-racing case

The surviving driver of a high-speed race that ended in an explosive crash in which two others were killed was convicted yesterday of aggravated street racing. Cook County sheriff’s deputies took Timothy Salvesen, 39, of Bartlett, into custody as his wife and mother sobbed from the gallery of the Rolling Meadows courtroom. The jury acquitted Salvesen of the more serious charge of leaving the scene of a fatal accident. Full story.

Mount Prospect store nearly stabilized

Engineers worked to stabilize Tri State Electronics, the Mount Prospect building that has been in danger of collapsing, and hoped to have the area declared safe this morning. If it is, all of Northwest Highway could reopen. Full story.

A Wood Dale man has been charged with sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl at parks and wooded areas in DuPage County, and authorities said they’re investigating allegations involving as many as six other potential victims. Full story..

Police still seek potential victims of Facebook predatory case

Investigators are still seeking any girl who might have been contacted via Facebook by Naperville sex offender Eric Hakala, 37, who is accused of posing as a St. Charles East High School student. Hakala appeared in DuPage County court yesterday on charges including indecent solicitation of a child, distribution of harmful material and child pornography. Full story.

Antioch Township man pleads guilty in street-racing death

An Antioch Township man involved in a crash that killed an Antioch girl pleaded guilty to aggravated street racing yesterday. Michael Dawson, 19, of the 25000 block of Herman Drive, faces a maximum of eight years in prison as part of a negotiated plea, the Lake County state’s attorney’s office announced. Full story.
