Man pleads guilty to theft at St. Alexius

A Schaumburg man who worked as a security guard for St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates pleaded guilty to misdemeanor theft for taking money belonging to patients.

Prosecutors say Oronzo Mazzoccoli, 31, took the money from a safe in an office where patients keep their valuables while they undergo tests. Video surveillance showed Mazzoccoli removing the money last August, prosecutors said.

Records show a Cook County judge sentenced Mazzoccoli to one year of court supervision. The judge also ordered him to complete 40 hours of community service and pay $379 in fines.

Representatives from St. Alexius did not respond to Daily Herald inquiries about Mazzoccoli’s employment status.
