Work to preserve our ‘companion species’

I just received my first animal welfare calendar for 2014. Looking at each month’s picture I was reminded of how many animal species have within just a few decades become threatened, endangered and, most sadly, critically endangered. Because of the human species’ actions, be it climate change, poaching, loss of habitat, pollution or commercial fishing methods, too many of our companion species are at risk of losing their existence on earth.

Rather than impacting the earth and its wildlife destructively and narcissistically, humans should live in ways that mutually benefit us, the earth and our companion species. If we do not, we will probably not survive physically and certainly not morally.
