Park, Vernon Hills motor ahead to sectional

Thanks to Justin Park, Vernon Hills’ boys golf team will park its bus at a sectional site.

Park, a freshman, shot a 73, 1 stroke behind medalist Jordan Hahn of Richmond-Burton, helping Vernon Hills (318) capture Tuesday’s Class 2A Grayslake Central regional at Renwood Golf Club. John Goerke added a 79 for the Cougars, who also counted the rounds of Bo Manso (80) and Ricky Schmidt (86).

The other two teams advancing to next Monday’s Freeport sectional at Park Hills Golf Course were Marian Central (326) and Antioch (327), which edged Richmond-Burton (327) on a fifth-score tiebreaker.

Antioch was led by Dillon Kreutzer’s 74. The Sequoits also received an 83 from Kyle Thode, an 84 from Cody Albrecht and an 86 from Jason Mrkonich.

Besides Hahn, the other advancing individuals included Lakes’ Mike Barry (82), Grayslake Central’s Kyle Reynolds (84) and Wauconda’s Mike Gertz (85).

Wauconda (345) placed fifth, while Grayslake Central (350) was sixth and Lakes (355) seventh.

Prospect regional: At Mt. Prospect Golf Club, Stevenson advanced Jerry Pan (73), Luke Feder (79) and Chris Krebs (81) out of the Class 3A regional.

The three advancing teams were Saint Viator (299), Deerfield (300) and Prospect (304). Stevenson (315) was fifth in the nine-team field.

The Huntley sectional is Monday at Blackstone Golf Club in Marengo.
