Gurnee-area bank robber didn’t appear armed, police say

A Gurnee-area bank was robbed Monday by a bandanna-wearing bandit, authorities said.

The stickup occurred about 10:55 a.m. at American Midwest Bank, 36044 N. Brookside Drive. No one was injured.

The suspect, who did not appear to be armed, approached the tellers’ counter and demanded money from two employees, police said.

The robber fled west on foot, police said.

Investigators weren’t immediately sure how much money was stolen.

The suspect was described as being of average height and build. He wore dark clothing, including a hooded sweatshirt and athletic warm-up pants. He also had bandannas over his face and forehead, police said.
