Aurora woman charged with murder held on $2 million bail

An Aurora woman was being held on $2 million bail in the Kane County Adult Justice Center on Saturday after being charged in connection with the stabbing death of her cousin.

Amy L. Zuniga, 44, of the 800 block of Front Street, was charged Friday with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. She appeared Saturday morning in Kane County bond court and was transported to the jail shortly after, a jail official said.

Aurora police said they responded at 1:40 a.m. Friday to a call about a possibly suicidal woman, and found Zuniga’s cousin, Reynaldo C. Galvan, 68, in the basement with a kitchen knife in his chest.

Zuniga and her 40-year-old husband had superficial stab wounds. Police believe Zuniga’s wounds were self-inflicted.

Police said it appears Zuniga attempted to stab her husband with a different kitchen knife. The husband was treated and released from an Aurora hospital.
