Decorate gourds during Pumpkinfest in Port Barrington
Submitted by The Broken Oar
The Broken Oar on the Fox River, 614 Rawson Bridge Road in Port Barrington, kicks off its inaugural Pumpkinfest on the Fox starting Sunday, Oct. 6, and continuing through Halloween.
The public is invited to help carve or decorate pumpkins to fill a 100-foot-long riverfront wall that will be constructed to house some 1,000 carved pumpkins. Each night in October at dusk, the pumpkin wall will be lit and available for viewing.
Pumpkin sales and carving will be held weekends in the heated party tent for a $5 donation per pumpkin, with all proceeds going to Lurie Children’s Hospital.
The tent will also house a 15-foot projection screen TV for football games, live entertainment Sundays and free hot dogs and hot chocolate with every donation on weekends.
The event finale weekend of Oct. 26-27 will include performances by Jim & Justin from Modern Day Romeos and Triadd Band, pumpkin chucking contest, a chili cook-off, pumpkin pie and tater tot eating contest, and more.
Sponsors for the event include Goebbert’s Pumpkin Farm and Ed’s Rental & Sales. For details, call (847) 639-9468 or visit www.brokeoar.com for updates and directions.
