Son in Wisconsin charged with killing father, burying body

BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. — A criminal complaint filed in Jackson County says a 20-year-old man told investigators he fatally shot his father and hid his body because his dad inflicted physical and emotional distress on him.

The complaint says Lars Helgeson told authorities he killed his 57-year-old father, Brian Helgeson, because he was “imprisoning him” at the house they shared in the town of Hixton and he was “just sick of all of it.”

Helgeson is charged with first-degree intentional homicide, hiding a corpse and driving a vehicle without the owner's consent. The La Crosse Tribune says a Jackson County judge Wednesday denied bail for Helgeson.

The complaint says Helgeson followed his father outside Sept. 16 or Sept. 17, fatally shot him, then burned his body before burying it on the property. A family member reported Brian Helgeson missing Sept. 23.
